I Leave You With This!

Been baking. Coaching basketball...baking...coaching...wrapping presents for Jack and LJ...re-wrapping said presents that Jack opened...coaching...baking...baking...baking...NEED HELP! Thank goodness I stumbled across this helpful blog post from The Kitchn that makes my mornings a wee bit more adventurous! Yum.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Check Out That Rack!

You are all such perverts. I, on the other hand, was referring to this plate rack...

I love the rustic feel of it but am wondering if this would ever really work in a house. What do you guys think? Too "why the hell is there a pallet on your wall" or CHIC! CHIC! CHIC!

Spice, Spice Baby

Ever since we moved into our house, I have been extremely unhappy with my spice storage situation. There were some spice shelves left over from the last owner but not all my jars fit in the little spaces. Plus, if I didn't cram things in just right, the door would not shut. Blah. As you can see from the pic below, there was mass chaos in the cabinet...
...and on the wall across the way. I have a lot of spices.
So what to do, what to do. After spotting this spice shelf at the Traveler's Lunchbox, I felt inspired to get all my spices in order. I settled on an old wooden cola crate that I picked up at the Sumpter Flea Market for $6. Next I found 4 oz. metal tins at Bella's Market in Baker. For those of you that don't have a Bella's Market nearby, I also found these little guys that would work too. Labeled and put into place, the spices look pretty sweet hanging on the wall. They are also really easy to scoop a measuring spoon into. Big plus.

I still have more spices to label when I get a chance. If I need to get another box, I think it would be cool hanging somewhere near this one. What do you guys think?

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

I know that I have not posted in a week or so BUT I have a wonderful excuse. It really is the fault of the three truck-loads of gravel, all the perennials I have been stealing from friends and families houses, and a very large amount of rocks brought in from the in-laws pasture. I have to say that the yard is starting to look like a little Garden of Eden.

So I will leave you with some gravel patio inspirations and the promise of some pictures of the redo next week.

What The?

I am all for supporting homemade goods but what the hell is this? A scorpion with green armpit hair and blue balls?
Not for Jack. I can't have anything that strange in the house on account of watching too many PuppetMaster/ Child's Play-like horror movies.

On a lighter note, I am finally sitting down and teaching myself how to sew. Turns out I am kinda ok at it and I really enjoy hand stitching. Still trying to get all my knots down but I am learning quickly with the help of some on-line tutorials.

"So Jenny, what have you made so far" you all ask. The answer, aprons. I have made a crap load of aprons from this apron pattern.
Everyone will be getting aprons here for the next year or so. I also broke down and ordered "sew what? bags!"
I am totally intimidated by this book. I am going to look at the pictures some more before I try and sunglass case. Wish me luck!

Inspiration Alert!

Design*Sponge just posted this "Sneak Peek" on designer Jessica Helgerson. I am digging her style! What do you guys think?

We already have the tub...just have to paint it.

And that is the look I was thinking of for the sconces!
Love, love, love the hardwood floor color.

I am going to warm LJ up to this by showing him this room...because we have a total of 2 guitars, 1 ukulele, one drum set and 2 amps.
Don't know about the scary woman thing in the middle of the room but I do like the plants and glass bottles. The fixture is pretty cool too.
